As a teenager I had dermatomyositis. Walking was difficult, let alone running and I couldn't properly participate with my friends. At a certain point I also became dependent upon a wheelchair. Now I'm making up for the lost miles. I want each step to help other kids with a muscle disease. I know how it feels to be unable to walk or to just be a kid and hope that this donation can help research to find cures or to give a child a day they won't forget. This is why I'm going to run a marathon with 3000 elevation meters in september. To train for this I will run a total of 1000km between 1st January and the end of September
Als kind had ik dermatomyositis. Lopen ging erg moeilijk en ik kon niet goed meedoen met mijn vrienden. Voor een tijdje was ik ook afhankelijk van een rolstoel. Nu haal ik die verloren kilometers in. En nu wil ik elke stap inzetten om andere kinderen met een spierziekte te helpen. Ik weet hoe het voelt om niet te kunnen lopen of gewoon kind te zijn en ik hoop dat deze inzet kan de stichting helpen om dichterbij een genezing te komen of een kind een mooie dag te geven. Daarom ga ik een marathon lopen. En niet zo maar een marathon maar met 3000 hoogtemeters in September. Om hiervoor te trainen zal ik in totaal 1000km afleggen tussen 1 januari en eind september

Nog even om hoog
18-09-2022 Tijdens de mountain medicine cursus hebben we veel pieks gehiked. Een dag waren we eerder klaar dan verwacht dus ik kon zo'n mooie kans niet laten zitten. Ik ging even een topje pakken. De wandel tijd stond rond de 3 uur, maar het was toch gelukt in 1 uur, met daarnaast een kwartiertje van de mooie uitzicht te genieten
Hardlopen op hoogte
29-07-2022 Canada is een beeldschoon land vol met uitdagingen. Ik ging daar voornamelijk voor klimmen maar ik kon natuurlijk niet niet hardlopen. Een van de mooiste plekken was Joffre lakes, met een trail die begint op 2100m en stijgt langs drie meren naar 2700m. Op zo'n hoogte voelt het alsof je start met lopen op kilometer 20 al, je benen zijn snel zwaar en moe en je verzuurt snel en ademt veel hoger. Maar het was het waard om deze mooi omgeving te zien als tussenstop tijdens een lange reis van de rockys naar squamish

Tough hilly terrain but we took our time. Dont worry Gilly had plenty of water and a break every 10km and had enough energy to chase a squirrel at the end!
